Anna Sui Spring Summer 2011 Collection

Anna Sui Spring Summer 2011 Collection

The ethno simplicity and the hippy sharm were enough to bring me to a happy place, somewhere countryside where the sun shines bright and puts that gorgeous smile on the models faces! Clearly receiving the same stylists consignment to pick a seventies related theme for the collection, Anna Sui did her best to highlight that and still have fun while doing it. (more images right after the jump and a catwalk video)
Anna Sui SS 2011

It may not be the most avant-garde and noire couture out there (and that’s something I’m thankful for), but Anna Sui’s collections make me safe in such a mad, mad catwalk world. Smiling is good, girly is good and country is definitely good. Give me a wardrobe full of Anna Sui and I’d feel like celebrating life with every garment I’d wear! Frills and thrills, the emotions of light and positivism through fabrics, I’m sold! Is it spring yet? (you can see photos of the entire collection here)

Romantik bir Mum

Wrap fragrant pillar candles in homemade paper for a romantic look. Brass hearts add extra romantic appeal. You can vary the look of the paper for different occasions.

Supplies:
  • Arnold Grummer's Heart & Flowers Ceramic Casting Mold
  • Arnold Grummer's Papermill Complete Kit
  • Arnold Grummer's Angel Wings: Multi Color Mix
  • Arnold Grummer's Flame Free for Paper Crafts
  • Arnold Grummer's Cotton Linter Casting Squares: 2 oz package
  • Wastepaper to recycle: pink, white
  • Blender
  • Dishpan
  • Ruler
  • Paintbrush
  • Craft glue
  • Large needle
  • Purple metallic ribbon
  • 3 small round brads
  • 5 brass heart brads
  • Pillar candle with concave top

Steps:
  1. Follow the instructions in any Arnold Grummer paper making set to make one sheet each of white and pink handmade paper. For botanical look: remove seeds from 1 to 2 Angel Wing petals; add to pulp in blender for last few seconds of blending.

  2. Make lines on handmade sheets using a ruler and fine paintbrush dipped in water. Tear along the wet lines to make 'torn edge' pieces in these sizes: white - 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" and 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"; pink - 3" x 3".

  3. Follow directions on Arnold Grummer's Cotton Linter Casting Squares to create heart paper cast. Gently tear excess paper from heart cast to leave a 1/4" torn edge border around image.

  4. Use craft glue to attach strip of handmade paper around candle, 1/2" up form the bottom of candle. There will be a gap, but the paper cast will cover the gap between ends of the strip.

  5. Wrap metallic ribbon around the handmade paper strip several times. Secure with craft glue.

  6. Layer and attach white and pink torn edge paper squares, and paper cast as shown.

  7. Use a needle to poke holes at top right, bottom right, and bottom left of casting on candle. Insert small round brass brads into holes. Poke four holes around the strip of paper and insert heart brads.

  8. Attach a ribbon bow to the top left corner. Cut off brad prongs from the remaining heart and secure to the center of the bow with craft glue.
Note: Never leave a burning candle unattended. Pillar candles with concave tops normally do not drip. To prevent wax from dripping, refrigerate candle 1 to 2 hours before burning and keep lit for only 1 to 2 hours at a time. Use Arnold Grummer's FLAME FREE for PAPER CRAFTS on any paper candle wrap used in a display at a restaurant or hall.

Repetto For Opening Ceremony Shoes Collection Fall 2010

Repetto and Opening Ceremony worked on a collection for this 2010 fall that seems to illustrate just what we were talking about yesterday: modest heels make this fall’s hottest trends. Animal print ballerinas and western booties. How do you find the new OC Repetto collaboration (do hit the jump to see more, larger, better)? (how much is it, you say? Well, count $400 for the flat ballerina shoes and $500 for the Kadinsky Western booties)

Free pattern: teeny tiny knitted toys

tiny rabbit.jpgLittle Cotton Rabbit has an adorable pattern for knitting tiny soft animals that would make pefrect pram toys. The project is also a great way to use up leftover yarn.
The pattern will show you how to make a rabbit and bear, both measuring just under 2.5 inches (6 cms) long. It's a bit fiddly, but heaps of fun, and good practice for getting those precision stitches spot on. And their little faces are just so unbearably cute! Think I'm going to move on to something else now before my maternal instincts eat me.

Lady Gaga In Alexander McQueen Dress For MTV 2010 VMAs

Lady Gaga In Alexander McQueen Dress For MTV 2010 VMAs

How do you feel about Lady Gaga? How do you feel about Lady Gaga wearing Alexander McQueen? I’m struggling hard not to see a bad side to this fame story!
So we had the MTV 2010 VMAs this very Sunday. You can just as well name it the Gaga edition since she swept this edition with 13 nominations from which she actually received 8 trophies (notably video of the year for Bad Romance, best collaboration for Telephone). That’s just a brief introduction to her stage outfits, actually. Because Lady Gaga chose to wear Alexander McQueen to start the night with. It’s a dress she had already worn before in her Vanity Fair pictorial. The Mohawk head piece was signed by Philip Treacy. (the story continues right after the jump with more images, click here for the gallery!)
Lady Gaga McQueen dress Armadillo shoes MTV VMAs 2010

That wasn’t the most outrageous thing she had worn for the night. The Alexander McQueen dress (paired with the impossible Armadillo shoes) was the most decent and the most fashionable by far. Remember that Vogue Hommes cover she did? The one not-so-easy to digest? Yep, the meat dress thing? She had a very similar piece tonight, on the MTV VMAs stage with a matching head meat piece and a meat clutch. For some reason, though, even if I highly appreciate any public highlight of anything McQueen, Gaga’s attempts at being different smell like fame desperation, thus not honoring McQueen’s memory in my opinion. Where others see art in Gaga, I see nothing genuine / original. Posing as a “special” someone doesn’t necessarily make her one too. It’s all a stage game. The Fame game. Please, Gaga, enough McQueen already! (photos via 1, 2, 3)
